      "...all that certain piece or parcel of land containing forty five acres which was contracted by Vincent Le Ray de Chaumont to George W. Evans by contract dated the seventh day of May, 1832, situate in the town of Alexandria, County of Jefferson and State of New York aforesaid being part of Lot 221 of the subdivisions of Great Lot Number 4 of Macomb's Purchase and comprehended within the following boundaries to wit:
      bounded South East by the South East line of said Lot 221,
      South West by 25 acres now or formerly owned by W. Coster
      North West by 200 acres conveyed to Richard Hoover by Vincent Le Ray 28th November 1828,
      and on the North East by a line to run North 54 degrees West,
      and at such distance from the N.E. line of the aforesiad 25 acre piece as to include the aforesaid quantity of forty five acres of land and no more"
      The legal description contained in this document is incorrect. Lot 221 of the subdivision of Great Lot Number 4 of Macomb's purchase lies within Theresa Township, not Alexandria [Township].

      I think either the person cutting the stone or the transcriber of the inscription made an error in the year of death. I think the transcriber made a reading error, the second 8 in 1884 may have looked like a 6. In either case, the stone read "aged 89 yrs". If that is true, then 1884 would make more sense for date of death, assuming that the birth date of June 25, 1794 is correct. To support this, he (and wife Anna) is found in the 1870 census in Lewis County, NY.
