      Joseph Reff.

Former Cape Vincent Resident Dies in Minnesota.

The following concerning the death of Joseph Reff, a former resident of Cape Vincent, who died at his home at Luce, Minn., is taken from the paper published in that village:
Joseph Reff, one of the best known and most popular farmers of Gorman township, passed away Saturday morning, June 26, at his home near the village of Luce. His death was due to a complication of disesaes from which he had been suffering for about two years. He consulted the ablest medical specialists in the state but their treatment afforded little relief and he gradually failed until death ended his sufferings. For several months he realized that there was no hope, but he faced the end bravely, with always a kind, cheerful word for those around him, and passed away consoled by the last rites of the Catholic Church, of which be had
      always been a faithful member.
Joseph Reff was born at Cape Vincent, N.Y. 46 years ago. He came to Minnesota 29 years ago and soon afterwards settled on the farm in Gorman town which has since been his home. In 1886 he was married to Miss Minnie Fischer, who with three sons and one daughter are left to mourn the death of a devoted husband and father. Tho daughter is now traveling in California for the benefit of her health and was unable to be present at the funeral.
Deceased was an honest, upright man who took an active part in every movement that tended to the advancement and betterment of the community in which he lived. He was one of the prime movers in the establishment of the Luce creamery. He assisted in incorporating the village
of Luce and acted as its village president for several years. He was town clerk of Gorman town for many years, holding the office at the time of his death. Prior to that he was supervisor several terms, being chairman of the board most of the time. In every sphere of life he acted well his part and his untimely death is deeply deplored by all who knew him.
Deceased is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Christopher,
George and William Reff, of Frazee, Minn.; Nicholas Reff, of Cape Vincent; Mrs. Michael Smithling, of Luce; Mrs Alfred King, of Verago, Minn.; Mrs. Eugene Bourcy, of Rosiere, and Mac Giles Kilborn, of Cape Vincent.
